SOLENOIDS VS. COILS: WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
Custom wound solenoids are specific types of coils that are constructed with a single wire coil wrapped around an iron core. In contrast, some of our other types of custom coils feature multiple wire wrappings, or a self-supported air-core construction. Generally, solenoids are designed to be much larger in length than in diameter. This design characteristic allows them to achieve a relatively uniform magnetic field with minimal leakage.
